Photography tips

Tip 1

Candy Lambert, a photography trainer at PixiFoto, the family portrait professionals, says you need a natural light source, as well as your flash, to take the best pic of your bub. Doing this will show off your baby's true skin tones, making him look his best.

Tip 2

Candy also advises parents to choose a good time of the day to photograph your baby - after a sleep and a feed is usually the best time to get plenty of smiles. And remember that you only have a small window of opportunity to catch your child's big smiles, as babies get bored very easily. Work quickly!

Tip 3

Ask someone to stand behind you so they can attract your baby's attention and get him grinning. If no-one else is home, try playing peek-a-boo behind the camera. Get a big grin; if your bub doesn't smile for you, he probably won't smile for us!

Tip 4

Fiona Baker, Mother & Baby's Editor-in-Chief, has a few tips of her own. Make sure your baby doesn't have food on his face as you're taking his pic, and ensure he's not wearing a hat, sunglasses or hood – after all, we want to see him as best we can.
